These chairs have been elegantly designed and constructed.The legs are slightly tapered which gives a sense of strength. The front leg posts extend to the armrest while the back leg posts extend to the back support all the way to the top rail. From structural point of view, using single piece of timber in the vital supporting posts reinforces the structural strength.
The back support features relief carving of a deer. The deer is pronounced 'lu' the same as the word for emolument or the benefits arising from a position of rank in the imperial bureaucracy. The deer therefore represents a wish for a successful career. The bottom of the support has a wave motif. Wave symbolizes abundance and prosperity.
