These chairs are particularly elegant side chairs. They are very simple in their design, reflecting a style developed in the Ming dynasty (1368-1644) and which remained popular to the present day. The simple lines and plain apron under the seat are typical of the Ming style. The back leg posts extend all the way to the top rail. From a structural point of view, using a single piece of timber in the vital supporting posts reinforces the structural strength.
